  • A lecture was recently given by Bobette Buster at Oklahoma Christian University.
  • She taught students about the deeper meaning behind fairy tales and children's movies.
  • The lecture was attended by students who were interested in Pixar movies and who were in need of Ethos credits.

The Deeper Meaning Behind Children's Stories

In Buster’s lecture, a lesson was taught to students about the deeper meaning behind fairy tales and children’s movies.

“I feel like next time I hear a fairy tale, I’m going to try to figure out what the lesson behind it is,” said an anonymous OC student.

During one part of the lecture, a scene from the movie, Toy Story 2, was played. Meanwhile, a sad, heart-wrenching explanation of the deeper meaning behind the story of the movie was made by Buster.

“With Toy Story 2, [I] always felt like it was a coming of age kind of movie and a movie about family. ‘Cause like, you have Andy, who’s of course, getting older, then you have, like, Woody always coming back to him and being there for him as he grows up, but then you find out that the deeper meaning is that you’re gonna be forgotten and not cared for, since that was explained with Jessie and her previous owner, Emily. It was sad,” said OC student Stacey Deck.

The Lecture Was Attended By Who?

The lecture was attended by students who enjoy Pixar movies.

“I really like Pixar movies, so I thought it would be an interesting event to go to,” said the anonymous OC student.

“I attended the Bobette Buster lecture because Pixar movies were my childhood, so I thought it would be kinda cool,” said OC student Laekyn Ritter.

However, the need for Ethos credits also drew students to the event.

“[I went] get that Kudo that I was behind on ‘cause I wanted to catch up since, you know, I don’t feel like paying a fine for not going. And then the other part of it was because it seemed like it would be interesting since I’ve grown up on Disney and Pixar, and considering she like, was a storyteller that worked with them, [it] seemed like what she had to say would’ve been cool to listen to,” said Stacey Deck.

Students Interested In Attending Future Lectures

Overall, the lecture given by Buster was enjoyed by all students. “[I liked] the way that she described storytelling and how she said that everyone’s story is common until it’s told in your perspective,” said Deck.

After attending Buster’s lecture, students are interested in going to similar events held by OC in the future. These types of events hosted by OC are compelling to students.

“If they have more lectures like that, I’ll probably go because that one was interesting. And then, a couple weeks ago, [I] went to that Central Park Five one, which was interesting,” said Deck.

Ethos credits are also needed to be fulfilled by many students, prompting them to show up to these events.

“I think I’ll probably go to another lecture event at OC again because I need to get Kudos,” said Ritter.
